Victim of pit bull attack searches for owners

A $500 reward is being offered for information about the owners of a pit bull that attacked a Vancouver woman and her 13-month-olddaughter while they were walking in a downtown park.

In a statement to Vancouver Community Services Animal Control, Ellen Sy recalled the horror of being charged by the pit pull while she was walking with daughter Cadence on Aug. 7.

"I screamed as I felt the weight of the dog on my back,'' said Sy, who was left bleeding and shaken from trying to protect her baby from the dog. Cadence suffered bruises and shock in the incident.

But instead of trying to help, Sy said, the people with the dog responded by giving her false contact information after following her back to her nearby apartment, where their pictures were captured by a video surveillance camera.

In the statement, Sy said she tried calling the numbers she had been given but got no response. "It was later verified that the name and phone number were fictitious,'' she said.

After reporting the incident to Vancouver police, Sy and her husband Steve Chua have attempted to locate the owners by putting up posters showing thephotos that were taken by the security cameras in their building.

The family isalso offering $500 for information that might help police locate them.

"This is about the responsibility of an individual to come forward,'' Chua said.

The alleged owners are described as a Caucasian male and female, in their late 20s or early 30s. Both have dirty blond hair. The pit bull has a white and brown body and a white and caramel face.
