Vancouver Police dog Tusk nabs car jacking suspect

Tusk, one of the Vancouver Police Department's service dogs, helped capture a suspect in an alleged car jacking after a man was beaten and forced from his car on Friday night on Windermere Street.

The Vancouver Police Department is fting one of its service dogs on social media after it helped apprehend a a suspect involved in an alleged violent carjacking Friday night on " target="_blank">Windermere Street.

Cst. Brian Montague said in an email to CBC News that the victim was sitting in his parked car when the male suspect approached and, "opened the car door, assaulted him repeatedly and dragged him out of the vehicle."

Montague says victim did not know the suspect, who eventually fled in thevehicle.

The victim then called 911 and officers were able to locate the vehicle, but then lost sight of it. Once they found it again, the suspect was not there, but returned while officers were investigating.

Montague says the man then fled on foot, prompting officers to bring in Tusk,a police service dog.

"The dog was deployed and the suspect was apprehended," wrote Montague. "He was taken to hospital for treatment of lacerations."

Montague did not say what charges, if any, the suspect could face orif the victim sustained any injuries.

The force's canine unit often posts humorous Tweets about the actions of its service dogs involved in cases.
