Police say that they are investigating after a wire was reportedly strung across a bike lane on the Second Narrows Bridge connecting Vancouver and North Vancouver.

North Vancouver RCMP say that a cyclist found a wire tied across the northbound bike lane, on the east side of the bridge, on Aug.9.

The cyclist removed the wire and reported it to police the next day.

"We're just extremely fortunate that nobody was injured in this incident," said Const. Mansoor Sahak in an interview.

"Obviously, if you know anybody taking the Second Narrows Bridge, if they see anybody suspicious hanging around loitering and [they] appear that they're doing something suspicious, just give us a call."

Sahak said that there are cameras installed on the bridge, which is also called the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge, and police will review the footage as they investigate who strung the wire up.

But he acknowledged that they're not yet sure if the cameras had captured someone in the act, and some camerasmay not record continuously, so there were a number of factors at play for police.

Wires across trails have proven injurious to bikers in the past in B.C., with one Saanich mountain biker nearly having his throat slashed by a wire in 2013.

Anyone with more information on the wire at the Second Narrows Bridge is asked to call RCMP at604-985-1311, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at1-800-222-8477.
