Woman arrested in death of B.C. jail inmate

One woman is arrested in connection with the death of another female inmate at the Alouette Correctional Centre for Women in Maple Ridge.

One woman was arrested Mondayin connection with the death of another female inmate at the Alouette Correctional Centrefor Women, in Maple Ridge, B.C., police say.

On Friday, 51-year-old April Peregoodawas found unresponsive by jail staff and taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Peregooda, who lived in Vernon before incarceration, had been in jail for seven months.

Officials are waiting for autopsy results to confirm how she diedbut Ridge Meadows RCMP, suspecting foul play, called the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team to investigate.

IHIT saysthe investigation has just begun, and is hoping to learn more about a possible motive by speaking to other inmates.

No charges have been laid.
