4.4-magnitude earthquake recorded near Fox Creek

An earthquake of 4.4-magnitude was recorded east of the Alberta town of Fox Creek.

An earthquake of 4.4 magnitude was recorded east of the Alberta town of Fox Creek.

The earthquake happenedat 5:57 p.m. MT on Saturday, according to Natural Resources Canada.

It's the second earthquake near the town this year. The first, recorded on Jan. 22, was also a 4.4-magnitude quake.

At the time,Alberta's provincial energy regulator saidtheearthquakewas likely caused by hydraulic fracturing.

Fox Creek, a town of about 2,000 people innorthern Alberta, is largely sustained by oil and gas development.
