Abdul Amer charged in connection with Coral Springs shooting

Calgary's family-based gang war continues with new charges laid against a teen whose brother and cousin are already awaiting trial on shooting-related charges.

Abdul Amer, 19, is charged with two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to injurein connection with a shooting in December in the northeast community of Coral Springs.

His brother, Badar Amer and cousin, Talal Amer are both charged in connection with a shooting in the southeast in June.

Abdul Amer appeared in court today, wearing a white t-shirt and sporting a mohawk. A bail hearing was set for Feb. 5 by his lawyer, Katherin Beyak.

Organized crime prosecutor Bob Sigurdson is expected to oppose his release.

On Dec. 13, two men were sitting in a vehicle when a Dodge Caravan pulled up, a gunman got out and fired four rounds into the victim's car before taking off.

There were no injuries but officers found two other rounds in nearby homes. Police haven't ruled out laying more charges.

Talal Amer was also recently charged in connection with a near-fatal shooting in January in the parking lot of a strip mall. He was denied bail
