Acting Deputy Chief Steve Barlow to serve as interim Calgary police chief

The Calgary Police Service has tapped acting Deputy Chief Steve Barlow to serve as interim chief constable when Chief Roger Chaffin retires early next year.

The Calgary Police Service has tapped acting Deputy ChiefSteve Barlow to serve as interim chiefconstable until a permanent replacement is found forChief Roger Chaffin, who is retiring.

Barlow has been with CPS for 29 years and has held seniorpositions in patrol, specialized investigations, major crimes, professional standardsand human resources, according to Calgary police.

"In his current position as acting deputy chief of operations, Barlow has focused on getting front-line officers the support they need to keep Calgary safe, including sponsoring the roll-out of body worn cameras and hard body armour," CPS said in a media release Tuesday.

Barlow will be sworn in as interim chief on Oct. 19 and will remain in the position until a new chief is appointed.

Chaffinannounced in July his last day on the job would be Jan. 6, 2019.
