RCMP name 3 people charged after discovering U-Haul full of stolen cheques, document-forging tools

Alberta RCMP have laid a total of 282 charges against three people, after they were arrested with a van full of stolen papers and document-forging equipment in Airdrie.

Items recovered from the U-Haul included a typewriter, break-in tools, a firearm, drivers licences, health cards, other ID cards, and mail and cheques. (Airdrie RCMP)

Alberta RCMP have named the three people charged with a total of 282 offences, after police say they were arrested with a van full of stolen papers and document-forging equipment in Airdrie.

Police responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint at 8 a.m. on June 27, whenthey found three people attempting to scrape the decals off a U-Haul van parked onBig Hill Springs Road,west of Range Road 13.

The three people charged are:

  • Shawn Patrick Corliss, 29,of Calgary.
  • Hayley Elizabeth McGowan, 23,of Calgary.
  • Taylor Leigh Admussen, 19, of Edmonton.

Each is facing94 charges. All three have been released on a recognizance to appear in provincial court in Airdrie on July 26.

More than 40 crimes solved, police say

Items found inside the van included break-in tools; firearms and ammunition; drugs; stolen mail, IDs and cheques; and equipment for forging fake documents.

"A concerned citizen taking the time to call in what they believed to be a suspicious vehiclehas resulted in the solving of over 40 crimes committed throughout Rocky View County, Airdrie, Calgary, Chestermere, and Okotoks," said Const. Dan Martin of AirdrieRCMP in a release.

The charges the three suspects are facing include:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000.
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (the stolen documents and IDs).
  • Possession of controlled substances.
  • Forgery.
  • Possession of a loaded firearm.
  • Possession of break-in tools.
