Driver killed in 2-vehicle crash northeast of Strathmore

A man was killed and woman airlifted to hospital in Calgary after a two-vehicle crash northeast of Strathmore, Alta., on Tuesday.

Police say car ran stop sign at Hwy. 840 and Hwy. 564 and hit a tractor-trailer

A man was killed and woman airlifted to hospital in Calgary after a two-vehicle crash northeast of Strathmore, Alta., on Tuesday.

Police were called to the intersection of Highway 840 and Highway 564 about 6 p.m. after a westbound car failed to stop at a stop sign and slammed into the trailer of a northbound semi-trailer.

The male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to Foothills hospital in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

The intersection was closed for several hours while the collision reconstruction team investigated.
