Alberta sees provincial out-migration for 4th quarter in a row

For the fourth consecutive quarter, more people left Alberta for another province than moved here from one, according to numbers released Thursday by Statistics Canada.

Between July and September the third quarter of 2016 inter-provincial migration saw 18,087 people come to Albertabut 21,937 move out, leaving a net out-migration of 3,850.

B.C. was the destination of choice for most of the people leaving Alberta for another province, according to the data, with about 8,000 heading there.

Officials with ATB Financial predict there will be "a few more quarters of net out-migration before Alberta's economy stabilizes and starts to gradually recover in 2017."
