Albertans support royalty review, finds Mainstreet Technologies poll

A new poll shows 65 per cent of Albertans support a royalty review a plan pitched by the province's new NDP government during the election campaign.

A new poll shows 65 per cent of Albertans support a royalty review a plan pitched by the province'snew NDP government during the election campaign.

Mainstreet Technologies surveyed3,018Albertanswith Smart IVRon bothcellphones and landlineson May 25to gather the data.

The poll also found46 per cent believe the rates should increase, while33 per cent say royalties should stay the same.

This question asked Albertans whether they approved or disapproved of the provincial government conducting a review of royalty rates for oil and natural gas produced on Crown-owned land. (Mainstreet Technologies)

However, 51 per cent of those surveyed do no support a carbon tax.

The survey also found a strong approval rating for Premier Rachel Notley at 62 per cent, which jumps up to 75 per cent in Edmonton.

"Overall optimism in both personal finances and provincial finances has increased since the election ofPremier Notley," said Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet Technologies, in a release.

The data also suggests that43 per cent of Albertansoppose a PC-Wildrosemerger, while only 34 per cent oppose a Liberal and Alberta Party merger.

The poll carries an overall margin of error of plus or minus 1.78 per cent,19times out of 20.
