Apartment tower plan opposed

A new apartment tower planned for a southwest community isn't going up without a fight at city hall, some area residents are vowing.

A new apartment tower planned for a southwest community isn't going up without a fight at city hall, some area residents are vowing.

The owners of the Glenmore Gardens complex which features two high-rises at the 2100 block of 90th Avenue S.W. in Palliser want to build a third, 17-story tower on the site.

Plans are expected to be revealed at a meeting of the city's planning commission on Thursday.

Local resident Nancy McGillvray said she has collected 676 signatures on a petition to oppose construction of the new tower.

"And we've done our homework and we're organized," she said.

Warren Mcleod, another Palliser resident, said his neigbourhood's quiet atmosphere would be ruined if the Glenmore Gardens is allowed to proceed withthe high-density project.

"There will be trees dying and huge traffic noise, and that's going to affect this community's daily life," he said.
