A blaze that destroyed a house under construction in Mount Pleasant earlier this week was started by an arsonist, Calgary police believe.

Crews were called to a fire in the 400 block of 30th Ave.N.W. at about 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The two-storey house, which was still being built, was a total loss, the fire department said.

CCTV footage from a nearby business shows a person in dark clothingriding a bicycle in the area when the fire started.

The person later returned to the burning house and was last seen travelling north along Fourth Street N.W., police said.

The fire was not reported to 911 until about a half an hour later.

Anyone who can identify the person on the bike is asked to call police or contact Crime Stoppers.
