Calgary fire work on hotspots at 2-alarm Aspen Woods blaze

A southwest Calgary fire destroyed one home and left another badly damaged Sunday afternoon.

A southwest Calgary fire destroyed one home and left a second badly damaged Sunday evening.

Fire officials say they responded to a call at about 6:40 p.m. to the 100-block ofAspen Ridge Heights S.W.

Before the first crew even arrived, they called for a second crew based on the visible fire and smoke.

One homeunder construction and unoccupiedwas completely destroyed.

The flames leapt to the home nextdoor, where extensive damaged was caused to the roof and second level. That home was occupied at the time, but residents self-evacuated and there are no reported injuries, fire officials say.

The flames were mostly out with firefighters working to manage hotspots by late Sunday evening.

Calgary firefighters have been busy this weekend with another two-alarm fire in Monterey Park on Friday and afour-plex firein the city's southeast Saturday morning. Those two fires have left almost 30 people homeless.
