Calgary police released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with a roadside stabbing that left another motorist in life-threatening condition.

The incident happened on Aug. 5 shortly after 9 p.m. in Renfrew in the city's northeast.

Two men driving a black Mazda 3 were being tailgated by a grey or silver SUV, so the driver pulled over in the 500 block of 10th Avenue N.E. to let the other motorist pass.

Police say the suspect in a roadside stabbing in August in northeast Calgary was driving this grey or silver SUV seen in a CCTV image. (Calgary Police Service)

The driver of the SUV also pulled over, walked over to the Mazda, leaned in through the open window and stabbed the driver. He then fled.

The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. He has since been released from hospital.

The suspect is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, between 5'9to 6' tall, with a slim build.

He was wearing a grey hoodie, red baseball cap, white sneakers and a surgical-style mask.

Police think the attack was unprovoked.
