Airdrie man charged after gas station robbed using replica gun

Alberta RCMP have charged a man after a gas station was robbedin Balzac.

On Saturday at around 3:12 p.m., police say a lone man entered Balzac Gas Station and demanded money from the clerk while brandishing an airsoft pistol, which are replica guns that shootpellets.

Police say the suspect took off with the money in a vehicle.

RCMP tracked down the vehicle later the same day in Airdrie'sLuxstone neighbourhood, where they arrested the suspect.

Cody Madigan, 20, faces five charges, including:

  • Robbery with a firearm.
  • Using a firearm while committing an offence.
  • Pointing a firearm.

Madigan's been released under conditions and is due to appear in court on Jan. 31, 2019.

Balzac is a hamlet located just north of Calgary.
