Banff Springs bomb threat investigated, but it's business as usual

It's business as usual at the Banff Springsdespite a threatening letter the iconic hotel received on Friday.

"We alerted the RCMP and they are investigating and there's been no credible threat that's been assessed at this time, so we're just kind of continuing business as usual," said Fairmont spokespersonAngela Moore.

David Roberts, general manager of the hotel, sent a letter to guests on Friday alerting them to the threat, saying the threateningletter "advised that a bomb could be present on site Saturday evening."

Cpl. Sharon Franks, aspokesperson for the RCMP, said the force is taking the threat seriously.

"We are still investigating and working with the hotel and the staff there to locate the source of this threat," she said.

Sweeps and alerts

Moore says security staff have been continuously monitoring and sweeping the property, and that all guests have been alerted to the situation. She says they have not received many calls over the matterand there are still guests coming through the doors.

"Of course if people want to not come we honour that decision and help them in any other way, should they need to find other accommodation," she said.

The RCMP would not say what measures they had taken to assess the threat or provide details into the ongoing investigation.

"At this point we're taking it seriously as we would any other call of this nature. So we're still working on finding that source," Franks said.
