Bat bites in southern Alberta prompt rabies warning

Two people who were bitten by bats while trying to catch them has Alberta Health Services offering tips on how to avoid getting rabies.

Two people who were bitten by bats while trying to catch them has Alberta Health Services offering tips on how to avoid getting rabies.

Both incidents happened in the south zonethis week, at different times and in different locations.

Many wild animals, including bats, skunks and raccoons carry rabies and AHS suggests securing areas like garages to ensure animals can't get in.

Avoiding bats is also recommended.

AHS says if you're bitten, clean the area with soap and water and contact a public health office as soon as possible.
