Bill 6 prompts beef producers to seek 'made in Alberta' approach to farm safety

The executive director of Alberta Beef Producers hopes a meeting this week in Red Deer will provide some clarity on Bill 6.

Rich Smith says there will be 20 organizations at Friday's meeting, where they hope to find a collective strategy for the development of a "made in Alberta" approach to farm safety.

The act took effect at the start of this year.

It extendsworkers compensation coverage and occupational health and safety rulesto paid farm workers, who were previouslyexempted from such labour rules under the old law.

Smith says the law still lacks clarity when it comes to safety standards and how they should be applied and investigated at the farm level.
