Bowness Park won't reopen for some time, officials say

No decision until spring 2014

It will be a while before Bowness Park reopens to the public, officials say.

Last month's flood caused extensive damage to the 100-year-old greenspace and also set back a major re-development project already underway. The repairs and redevelopment of the park will likely take until next season, officials say.

"We're probably only, maybe 30 to 40 per cent complete," said Doug Marter with the city's parks department. "I think it's safe to say we might lose a year ... but it's too early to say for sure."

Once the flood damage is cleaned up, there's a chance the city will start to re-open sections of the park for public use.

However, officials say a decision likely won't be made until at least next spring.
