Parents of boy bitten by police dog plan legal action

The family of a boy who was attacked by a police dog last week is planning legal action against the Calgary Police Service.

The dog got out of its backyard in Aspen Hills last Wednesdayand approached three children playing in thestreet.

AliHassan, 12, ran from the dog, which chased him into his nearby home and bit him on his leg, leaving puncture wounds.

The boy's father was struggling to get the dog away from his son just as the dog's handler arrived.The handler administered first aid andthe boy was taken to hospital, where he wastreated and then released.

"That was a lot of pain, so I just fell onto the ground," said Hassan.

He says he still has nightmares of being attacked.

"I'm feeling scared sometimes ... I feel like a dog's going to come again."

Calgary police Chief Roger Chaffin saidpolice are investigating and he apologized in person to the family.

"Sorry's not enough," said Ali's mother, Rana Hassan."We need to take some action."

She saidshe and her husband Mustafa plan to get a lawyer.

"I need to take this to the highest level I can," Mustafa said.

"I need to make everybody aware that this has happened and it could happen to somebody else with much, much worse results."
