Brentwood LRT sex assault suspect sought by Calgary police

Calgary police are looking for help in identifying the man they say is responsible for a sexual assault on Friday night.

Aboriginal man, between 35 and 40 years of age, described as roughly 6 feet tall with a heavy build

Calgary police are looking for help in identifying the man they say is responsible for a sexual assault on Friday night.

A woman in her early 20s was leaving the Brentwood LRT station around 6:45 p.m. MT when she was grabbed and pulled into an alley near Blackiston Drive and Brentwood Road.

Anyone who may have information about a sex assault near the Brentwood LRT station in northwest Calgary is being asked to call police. (CBC)

The woman fell to the ground and the man hit her on the head, but she eventually managed to fight him off. Police say she did have some minor injuries.

"This is a stranger attack. She doesn't know him. She was attacked [and] he attempted to sexually assault her," said Staff Sgt. Bev Voros. "It's very terrifying for the victim.... She did an amazing job. She fought back and she got away."

Police are looking for an aboriginal man, between 35 and 40 years of age, about six feet tall with a heavy build,"pock-marked face" and medium-length black stringy hair.

"He was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, a dark-coloured hoodie pulled over his head and dark pants," said police in a release. "He was last seen walking southbound on Brentwood Road."

Police say they do have surveillance footage available, but have not released it as to not jeopardize their investigation.
