A memorial concert for five young Calgariansstabbed to death at a party raised nearly $40,000 for scholarships.

Organizers of the Sept. 4 fundraiser at Jubilee Auditorium wantedto honour the memories ofZackariah Rathwell, Lawrence Hong, Kaitlin Perras, Jordan Segura and Joshua Hunter.

The concertraised $16,000 through online ticket sales and another $23,000 was raisedthat night on raffles, sales and donations.

The money will go to scholarships and trust funds in the names of the five students, who were stabbed to death last spring at an end of classes house party in the Calgary neighbourhood of Brentwood.

More than 1,500 people were at the concert, which featured performances and local artwork.
