A missing eight-year-old girl has been found safe and sound, but her 19-year-old brother is facing charges in the case, Calgary police said in a release Wednesday night.

The family called police around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when they woke up and found the girl, her brother and a vehicle missing from their Greenview home in the city's northeast.

Calgary police determined the pair washeaded to B.C. and asked RCMP for help. The Mounties spotted the car near Hope, B.C., followed it and made an arrest near Abbotsford.

The girl is unharmed, police said.

The girl's father was flown out to be reunited with her through a Missing Children Society of Canada and WestJet program.

The older brother will return to Alberta later in the week to facecharges related to the incident.

The girl was found before investigators could determine if the case met the criteria for an Amber Alert.
