Calgary powerlifter Bryce Krawczyk to compete in Texas IPF World Championships

Bryce Krawczyk, 28, is one of two Canadians who will compete at the International Powerlifting Federation World Championships in Texas June 19 to 26.

Bryce Krawczyk used to be the "skinny kid," but the the105-kilogram powerliftingathletehas come a long way since then.

In July, he set a world deadlift record forhis weight category, and though someonebroke it, he'shoping take his title back at the InternationalPowerliftingFederationWorld Championships June 19 to 26.

In training,Krawczykhas already proven capable of matching the standing362-kilogramrecord.

Krawczyk will compete at the International Powerlifting Federation's World Championships in the 105-kg weight class.

He hopes to do it officially as just one of two Calgarianswho will compete at the world championships in Texas next week.

"The goal is to hopefully end up on the podium and maybe take that world record back to Canada," he said.

When he's not training himself, Krawczyk spotsothers as the head coach atCalgary Barbell.

Krawczyk, whose girlfriend also lifts, said he's encouraged to seeafairly even split of men and women at his training facility.

While Krawczyk recognizes that his sport receives relatively lessattention outside the immediate lifting community, he said he's motivated by powerlifting'sobjectivity and opportunity for self-improvement.

"It's about competing with yourself. When you see that progress, it's very objectively measured. You can't argue with that."
