Teen girl charged with murder in death of Calgary man whose remains found near burning car

A 16-year-old southern Alberta girl now faces an upgraded charge of first-degree murder alongside her boyfriend in connection with the death of a Calgary man whose remains were discovered near a burning car last October.

A 16-year-old southern Alberta girl now faces an upgraded charge of first-degree murder alongside her boyfriend in connection with the death of a Calgary man whose remains were discovered near a burning car last October.

The girl was originally charged with accessoryafter the factto murder and obstruction of justice. Prosecutor MacVomberg appeared in youth court to upgrade the charge Monday morning.

"After a detailed and thorough review of the evidence, it was determined that there is a reasonable likelihood of conviction on a charge of first-degree murder," saidVomberg.

FazalRehman'sbodywas foundat the scene of a burning vehiclein a rural area south of thevillage ofMorrin, nearDrumheller.

Rehman, 36, was also known by the nameAfzadRehman.

The teen can't be identified in order to comply with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Herboyfriend, Dylan Howard, 21, is also charged with first-degree murder. Both face charges of obstruction of justice as well.

Howard was denied bail and will be back in court in Drumhellerfor a preliminary inquiry in January.

The teen's defence lawyer, Andrea Urquhart, booked a bail hearing for her client on Monday. She will argue for the girl's release next month.
