Bus driver rescued from crash between Calgary Transit bus and tractor-trailer

A Calgary Transit bus and tractor-trailer collided near 52nd Street and 90th Avenue S.E. on Thursday resulting in five people being sent to hospital, according to EMS.

Five people taken to hospital, EMS says the driver has serious injuries

A Calgary bus driver had to be extracted from the wreckage after a southeast crash involving a tractor-trailer Thursday morning. Five people were sent to hospital with multiple injuries.

The accident happenedat 52nd Streetand 90th Avenue S.E., where police were called to the scene just after 11 a.m.

The collision causedthe city bus to smash into a nearby street light,according Stuart Brideaux of Calgary EMS.

The Calgary Transit driverreceived the worst of the injuries, said Brideaux, addinghe had to be extracted, whichwas difficultand took some time.

The man was takento hospital with multipleserious injuries.

Two femalebus passengers were also taken to hospital in stable condition.One male adult bus passenger was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police were directing traffic in the area whileeastbound 90th Avenue was closed. Southbound 52ndStreet was alsoclosed.

The Calgary Police Service'straffic section is investigating.
