C-Train death near Rundle station due to medical issue

A man has died after being struck by a C-Train near the Rundle station in northeast Calgary Thursday morning. It's the second fatality involving the LRT in as many days.

A man has died after being struck by a C-Trainjust north of the Rundlestation early Thursday morning, causing trafficdelaysalong Calgary'snortheast LRT line for several hours while officials investigated.

It happened at 36th Street and 26th Avenue N.E. just before 8:30 a.m. MT, according to EMS.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

Calgary Transit brought in shuttle buses for passengers affected by the service disruption. Rundle station has since reopened.

All the bells and blocking arms were working and the train hadthe right of way, saidStaff Sgt. Paul Stacey with the Calgary police traffic unit. He said several witnesses were interviewed.

Officialsnow saythe man was suffering from a medical issue, which led to the collision, butCalgary Transit spokespersonRon Collins had said earlier thatinvestigators believedtheman's death was not an accident.

This is the secondfatality involving the LRT in as many days.
