The Calgary Parking Authority says itiscontinuing to createdowntown parking spots.

Troy McLeod, general managerof the parking authority, says morethan 400on-street parking spaces have been added to the downtown over the pasttwo years.

He says some new parking spots are a result of construction projects ending, whileothers have been created by allowing parking on blocks where it was not previously permitted.

McLeod also says some of the increase is due toangle parking, whichhas been introduced on some blocks andhas doubled the parkingcapacity of those areas.

He says even more spots will be added this year.

"We're looking at some key corridors: Fourth Street isan example. We might be able to add off-peak parking because there arefour lanes of traffic, but off-peak we only really need two lanes, so we could put parking on both sides of the road on Fourth Street."

McLeod says the city anticipates adding 59 new spotsin the downtown and surrounding areas this year.
