City engineers are asking Calgary residents about replacing three pedestrian bridges on the Elbow River that were destroyed during the floods.

City planners are hoping to hear from people Tuesday who regularly used the bridges to find out what must be included in the replacement designs.

The informal meeting runs Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Christ Church at 3602 Eighth Avenue S.W.

Derek Heric, who is in charge of the bridge rebuilding project for the city, said the public meeting is the first step in a long process to replace the bridges.

While many options are open at this point, he said returning to the suspension bridge design isnt an option since it obviously cant withstand flood damage.

The city also has an online survey, which has already received 1,000 replies. The survey will closeSept. 22.
