Calgary man charged with voyeurism after woman recorded in bathroom stall

Calgary police have charged an 18-year-old man with voyeurism after an incident in a public washroom at Northgate Village Shopping Centre on Monday.

Calgary police have charged an 18-year-old man with voyeurism after an incident in a public washroom at Northgate Village Shopping Centreon Monday.

A woman inside a washroom stall noticed that a man was recording herby reaching around the wall of the stall with a cellphone.

The woman alerted mall security, who called the Calgary Police Service.

Alex Tran, 18, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of voyeurism and will appear in court on Oct. 25.

The investigation is ongoing, police said in a news release.

Police believe the man had been taking photos and videos of women without their consent all afternoon as they used the public washroom at the shopping centre at 495 36th St. N.E.

Police said the voyeurism is believed to have occurred between noon and 2 p.m. on Sept. 23, but that this was possibly not the first time that the man may have taken illicit photos and video previously, over the past weeks and even months.

Calgary Police are asking anyone who may have information, or may have seen suspicious behaviour while using the women's washroom at Northgate Village, to contact police by calling 403-266-1234 or reporting anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
