Officers assaulted by 2 inmates at Calgary Correctional Centre
Officers taken to hospital with cuts and bruises
Two inmates at the Calgary Correctional Centre attacked two correctional officers on Thursday, sending them to hospital with cuts and bruises.
The incident at the provincial jail at Spy Hill began when the inmates assaulted one correctional peace officer, said ShereneKhaw, a spokesperson for Alberta Justice and Solicitor General.
The second officer was injured when he tried to help his colleague.
Both officers were taken to hospital, and later released.
Police have been called in to investigate.
"Our officers work in a very challenging environment, and their safety and security is a priority," Khaw said.
"Along with the police investigation, a department review will determine if anything can be done to help prevent a similar incident from occurring again."
