Dog shot and killed in Calgary home invasion

A dog was shot and killed in an apparent home invasion in northeast Calgary on Wednesday night.

A dog was shot and killed in an apparent home invasion in northeast Calgary on Wednesday night.

Police were called to the 100 block of Margate Close N.E. about 11:30 p.m. after "multiple offenders" broke into a home, said Sgt. Duane Lepchuk.

"It appears to be a home invasion robbery," he said. "Shots were fired from what we believe was a shotgun, at which time a dog in the residence was killed."

Lepchuk said the dog appeared to be a pitbull.

The offenders fled and two men were arrested nearby.

A shotgun was also recovered.

The two menare facing charges of break and enter to commit an offence, using a firearm in commission of an offence, possession of a dangerous weapon, and cruelty to an animal.

Lepchuk said police are looking for two more suspects.

Three adults were in the home at the time and no one was injured.
