Calgary family moving back into home trashed by Airbnb renters

A Calgary family is finally getting ready to return home four months after they rented their house to some very bad-behaving Airbnb renters.

Damages could exceed $200K

Four months after it was turned upside down by Airbnb renters, renovations in Star and Mark King's Calgary home are nearly complete. The couple plan to move back in early September with their two young boys. (CBC)

A Calgary family is getting ready to move back into their home after it was trashed four months ago by people who rented it through Airbnb.

Thehome was rented by some people who partied all weekend. Theyleftgarbage,toilets plugged with condoms and damaged furniture.

Mark and Star King have been living in a condowith their two boys ever since a costpaid for byAirbnb.

The company has also paid for the repairsand replacing their damaged furniture and decor. The totalcould reachmore than $200,000.

Still Star isn't sure how it will feel to go home in a couple of weeks.

"It's really hard to know, to be honest, until they actually give us ourkey and we walk in and go, 'OK, can we live here until we make our move to the U.K. Can we actually call this place our home,'" she said.

Airbnb paid thousands of dollarsmore to decontaminate the household contents,most of whichended up in the landfill.

As for renting out their home again,Marksays they are on the fence.

"There's a reason why this story has gone all over the world because it's so strange," he said. "I'm sure there is many mishaps in renting your house, but this wasan extreme situation. I think we wouldn't be freaked out to rent again."
