Police looking for witnesses in motorcycle crash that killed teen

Calgary police are seeking witnesses to a fatal motorcycle collision on Sunday in the city's southeast.

Speed is considered to be a factor in the incident, police say

Calgary police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed a motorcycle collision that left a 17-year-old dead on Sunday to come forward.

Investigators said it happened around 4 a.m. on 52nd Street S.E., just south of the intersection at Glenmore Trail S.E.

A 17-year-old male was riding a2005 Honda CBR 600 south down 52nd Street S.E. at what police describe as a high rate of speed.

As the motorcycle went through the intersection, the 17-year-old lost control and was thrown from the bike. Hestruckthe base of a light pole and received fatal injuries, police said.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident. Investigators said speed is considered to be a factor in the crash, while impairment by alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact police.
