Calgary firefighters save Hamptons home thanks to working smoke alarm

The Calgary fire department is renewing the call to install home fire alarms after crews were alerted to a house fire in the Hamptons neighbourhood when no one was home.

The Calgary fire department is renewing the call to installhome fire alarms after crews were alerted to a house fire in the Hamptons neighbourhood when no one was home.

Crews were called around 8 p.m. to the 100 block of Hampshire Grove N.W.

There were no signs of smoke or flames from the outside, but once crews forced their way in, they saw the fire on the main floor.

"Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack to contain thefireto the kitchen area," the fire department said in a release.

The home owners hadnot even been contacted by the time the blaze was out, it added.

Investigators are working to determine how the fire started and say the incident is a reminder of the value ofworking smoke alarms.
