Calgary Folk Festival 2016 lineup announced

The Calgary Folk Festival has unveiled its 2016 lineup, which will feature 69artists from 16 countries on eightstages at Prince's Island Park this summer.

The37thannual celebration draws together the diverse musical traditions ofMauritania, Korea, New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ethiopia, the United States and Canada.

Notable Calgary acts includeThe Dudes,Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, andBRAIDS.

Well-knownCanadianartistsWhitehorse,Ian Tyson andCorb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans will also take the stage.

Other highlights include:

• The New Pornographers, whowill play the festival for the first time.
• Swedishsinger-songwriter The Tallest Man on Earth.
• Afro-Venezuelan powerhouseBetsayda Machado, touring outside Venezuela for the first time.
• Pompadour-donning, mandolin-pickingcountry artistMarty Stuart.

"We have upped the experiential ante," saidKerry Clarke, artistic director.

This year's festival will also include an expanded beer garden, an on-sitehalfpipe for skateboarders andword-based art displayed throughoutthe festival grounds.

The event runs July 21 to 24 and early bird tickets are available now.
