Freezing rain on Highway 2 north of Calgary leads to multiple crashes

Environment Canada has ended a freezing rain warning for the Calgary area, butroutes north of the city are dangerously slick, while developing chinook conditions to the south have prompted wind warnings.

Freezing rain is creating slippery conditionson the QEII, particularly from Airdrie north to Innisfail. Crews have responded to numerous collisions and jackknifedsemis along the highway, RCMP say.

Earlier, the agency warned that roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery in the area between Calgary and Red Deer.

Environment Canada ended the freezing rain warning for Calgary and area mid-morning.

However, freezingrain warnings remain in place for Red Deer,Innisfail,Stettler,Drumheller, Three Hills, Hanna, Coronation andOyen.

And the agency issued a wind warning for areas south of Calgary, including Okotoks, Cardston and Crowsnest Pass, as chinookconditions develop over the afternoon.

Winter storm warnings are also in place in some areas around Edmonton.
