A 20-year-old Calgary man is facing several charges after a fatal hit and run following a gas theft in the city's northwest Sunday.

A 20-year-old Calgary man is facing several charges after a fatal hit and run following a gas theft in the city's northwest Sunday.

Maryam Rashidi, 35, died Tuesdayin hospital after beingrun over by a stolen truck.

The gas station attendant chased the vehicle out of the parking lot after it filledup$113of fuel and drove off without paying.

Police recovered the stolen truck on Monday night in the community of Varsity. Tips from the public then led police to a home in Beddington on Tuesday night where the two suspects were located.

A 16-year-old male was taken into custody, but was later released after police consultationwith the Crown's office. Police believe he was the passenger in the truck at the time of Sunday's hitandrun.

Police took the 20-year-oldinto custody after officerssurrounded the home for hours. The plan is tocharge him with several offences once he appears before a Justice of the Peace:

  • Criminal negligence causing death
  • Hit and run causing death
  • Dangerous driving causing death
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Theft

Police say further charges may be laid, and they expect to release hisname afterhis court appearance.

"The Calgary Police Service would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance," said police in a release.
