It hasn't been this warm in Calgary on November 8 since we started keeping records.

The temperature hit 22 C today, slightly edging out the previous record of 21.1 C, set in 1923. Calgary wasn't the only hot spot though, with warm temperatures across the province.

Brooks was the warmest at 23 C.

David Phillips, Environment Canada's senior climatologist, calls it a heat wave in November.

"No question when it's this warm there's only one place it can come from, and that is certainly from the south. I know in British Columbia they're talking about a Pineapple Express it's Hawaiian air," he said.

"This is probably California air that's just flooding the province," he told CBC's The Homestretch.

Phillips saidthis Remembrance Day should be the warmest in 35 years, but warns the heat wave won't last, withdaytime highs below freezing by the end of the month.

And while this winter will be a little cooler than normal, he said,it won't be brutal, adding we can already say winter will be shorter this year at least on the front end.
