Mother of young Calgary hit-and-run victims speaks out

Calgary mother Amber Chinery is pleading with the driver of a pick-up truck who ran over her children early Fridayand then fled the sceneto come forward.

Police say a Dodge Ram or similar vehicle struck Chinery'snine-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son at a Beddington Heights intersection shortly after 7:30 a.m.

Chinery says her children now face months of recovery.CBC is not naming the children atthe request of the mother, who didsupplyphotographs of them for this story.

"I know it's going to forever change them and our family, and many people around them," Chinery said Saturday outside the Alberta Children's Hospital.

The incident has left her daughter with a broken leg and her son has a long list of surgeries to go through.

"(Doctors are) worried that they're going to have to undergo surgery one more time for him to repair a broken collarbone and scapula. He's got spinal injuries, injuries to his right lung, and of course bruises and road rash all over his body."

She says, that the driver left the scene, is the part that bothers her the most.

"I can forgive you possibly for hitting my children," Chinery said.

"But the fact that you ran over their bodies as they laid in the middle of the road and drove away, I cannot forgive that. You owe it to my children to come forward and be accountable for what you've done."
