9 people face charges after kidnapping in Calgary

Police said they were contacted around 3 a.m. by a man who said one of his family members was being held against his will.

Nine people are facing charges after an alleged kidnapping and assault in Calgary.

The Calgary Police Service said it wascontacted at around 3 a.m. Tuesday by a man who said one of his family members was being held against his will and had been assaulted.

Police said they worked with family members of the kidnapping victim to negotiate his release, eventually finding him at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The kidnapping victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

3 crime scenes under investigation

Multiple suspects were arrested at a home in Brentwood, and others were arrested a short time later at a hotel in Horizon, a northeast business district.

Police said they're collecting evidence from threecrime scenes and charges are pending. It's not believed there are any more suspects.

The kidnapping was a targeted incident, police said, adding that the names of those accused will be released once the charges have been sworn.
