Calgary man dies after alleged drunk-driving accident

A Calgary man has died from injuries he received in a collision on Dec. 8.

A Calgary man has died from injuries he received in acollision on Dec. 8.

Jerjes Bou Atia, 33, was driving through an intersection at Madigan Drive and 52nd Street northeast when his vehicle was T-boned by a Ford Explorer that drove through a red light.

He was crushed from the waist down and had to be extricated by the fire department.

A third vehicle, a Nissan Altima, then hit the Explorer from behind.

Witnesses told police they saw that driver throw a bottle out of the window before he fled the scene.

The 48-year-old femaledriver of the Exploreris charged with impaired driving causing injury, impaired driving and failing to provide a sample.

She is expected to appear in a Calgary courtroom in April.

The driver of the Altima was given a 48-hour suspension and charged with driving without insurance.
