The mother of Lacey Jones Mcknight says she is overwhelmed by the support she has received since her daughter was murdered, including a good turnout for a fundraising event Tuesday night.

The body of Jones Mcknight, 20,was found in her ex-fiancs car two weeks ago.

Kristopher Guenther, 29,has been charged with second-degree murder.

Mcknight's mother Shelly Jones has been unable to work since she injured herself last summer and does not have the financial means to pay for her daughters funeral.

Friends gathered Tuesday night at a downtown Calgary bar to help raise the money to cover the funeral and burial expenses.

"It's an overwhelming feeling of support, but it's a good feeling. It's a good cry to know that so many people cared about her," said Jones.

The family will know how much money was raised by late Wednesday, and remaining fundswill be donated to the Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society.

"We were going to take care of her mom and take care of her family and I plan to follow through with that promise," said friend Lisa Anderson.
