Do you live in Calgary's Northern Hills? Join us to tell your story at a free writing workshop

Seriously. We want to know about Northern Hills: the funny stories, quirky ones and the sad ones. The little things you notice about how it all fits together. Join our writing workshop in June.

Free workshop runs for 4 Wednesday evenings in June at Vivo register below.

Clockwise: Painting the longest mural in 2018, the blue ring public art installation (Travelling Light), planting a community garden, split rock in west Nose Creek and dog walking in Panorama Hills. (CBC, City of Calgary and the Northern Hills Community Association)

Let's say you have a friend come visit your Northern Hills neighbourhood for a couple days, and you take them on a long long walk all over the place. What kind of stories would you tell about the people and the place? How would you share what works, what doesn't? What things drive you nuts, or would you swear you could never live without?

Seriously. We want to know about Northern Hills: the funny stories, quirky ones and the sad ones. Your personal history here and the little things you notice about how it all fits together.

Why Northern Hills? Why not! It's always a good time to learn more about how our city's many neighbourhoods fit together. We're talking Harvest Hills, Country Hills, Panorama Hills, Coventry Hills and Country Hills Village. Who better to tell the Northern Hill stories than the people who call Northern Hills home?

So, put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, and join a CBC Calgary writing workshop.

This is when we bring together a small group of folks who want to get together and talk about story-telling and writing. You don't have to be a professional writer or even have flawless English. In these four in-person evening workshops, we'll take you through the process of writing your story. We'll even have special guests to share their writing experiences. You'll learn everything from where to begin, how to use key anecdotes and when a splash of colour can make your story come alive.

Best of all, it's free.

The workshops are being hosted at Vivo, with support from the Northern Hills Community Association. We'll start June 8 and meet each Wednesday in June from 7 to 8 p.m.

Work with CBC Calgary editor Elise Stolte for one-on-one feedback. By the end, you'll have a rough draft to be proud of and you can even choose to pitch your story to cbc.ca/calgary as one of our special First Person stories.

The area called the Northern Hills is actually five neighbourhoods in north central Calgary: Country Hills, Country Hills Village, Coventry Hills, Harvest Hills and Panorama Hills. (Google maps)
