Man charged with first-degree murder after woman attacked in Beltline

Calgary police have charged a 26-year-old man with first-degree murder after a woman was fatally attacked in the Beltline neighbourhood on Friday.

Police say the relationship between the accused and the victim is still unknown

Calgary police have laid charges after a woman was fatally stabbed in the Beltline neighbourhood on Friday.

Michael John Adenyi, 26,has been charged with first-degree murder.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Police saidthey were called to reports of an assault inthe 100 block of 10th Avenue S.E. at approximately 6:40 a.m on Friday.

They said they found an injured woman in her 30s unconscious.

Despite the efforts of first responders, she died shortly after.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and therelationship between the accused and the victim is still unknown.

Investigators had previously released a photo of a second manwho they believed had information related to what happened. Police said the man has since come forward and they believe "he had no involvement in the incident."

The woman's identity will not be released until after an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner takes place on Monday.
