Three men have been charged with trafficking offences in relation to two drug raids which resulted in a dog being shot for biting a Calgary police officer.

Two men in their 20s were arrested during a raid on a home in the 2300 block of 19 Street S.W. on Wednesday morning.

The third suspect, a 31-year-old man, turned himself into police after they executed a search warrant at a home on Coral Springs Circle N.E., briefly seizing two children and arresting their mother.

The three men, all from Calgary, have been charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

One man faces the additional charges ofpossessingproperty obtained by crime, possessing more than one operator's licence, and resisting arrest.

During the southwest raid, an officer shot dead a pit bull-type dog after it bit a tactical team member on the arm, causing a serious wound that required stitches.

Police said the arrests stemmed from a three-week investigation into a dial-a-dope ring following a tip from the public.

Officers seized 1.8 kilograms of marijuana, worth an estimated $18,000, along with more than $1,000 of cocaine, $14,565 in cash, and various amounts of steroids.
