Family of Hillhurst shooting victim say he was 'noble and brave' before death

Calgary police's homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man found shotin a Hillhurst alley.

Jordan Moore, 34, died Tuesday in hospital. Police have not said what they believe led to his death.

His family, however, says he was out for a "typical evening walk" that turned fatal.

"Though details are limited due to the ongoing police investigation, what we have been advised of is that while on his walk, Jordan saw an altercation and intervene[d] on behalf of someone in need,"his brother, Jason Moore, said in a statement to CBC News Wednesday.

"During the altercation, he was shot. We were told that Jordan acted in an extremely noble and brave manner."

Moore was active andan avid long-boarder who regularlytooklong rides and walks around the city, his brother said.

Two suspects in custody

Calgary Police Service have yet to release many details on the case. The force has two suspects in custody and continues to investigate.

Moore was taken to Foothills hospital with life-threatening injuries. His brother said he was surrounded by family when he died in hospital later that morning.

Officers arrested two suspectsafter Moore's suspicious death. They found the menin the Westhills area Tuesday around 7 p.m.

Multiple search warrants were executed across the city Wednesday, police said, including near Richmond Road and Westhills Way S.W. Police were spotted on scene at that intersection that morning.

In a public Facebookpost, the family thanked friends foroffering theircondolences. In the message to CBC, they said their loved onewould be "greatly and intensely missed."

"Jordan was a vibrant and caring man who loved music, reading and writing poetry, the outdoors and camping, working with his hands, and enjoying family and friends," his brother said. "He was an amazing son, brother, uncleand friend."

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Journey Church in Calgary's northwest. The burial will take place with family in Bergen, a community in the northwest of Mountain View County, about 10 kilometres south of Sundre.
