Calgary police seek driver who hit pedestrian and left scene

Calgary police are looking for help to find a driver who allegedly struck a pedestrian and left the scene early this morning.

The victim was walking eastbound on Memorial Drive near the Calgary Zoo at about 1:45 a.m.

Police said the driver of a light-coloured, medium- to large-sized four-door sedan hit the pedestrian and continued driving east, rather than staying at the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. No update on that individual's condition was immediately available.

Investigators closed the road and have been working for several hours to collect evidence.

Sgt. Colin Foster said charges and sentences tend to be more serious for drivers who do not remain at the scene after hit-and-run incidents.

"We are doing everything we can to find the driver of the vehicle involved in this collision and know that someone out there knows something," Foster said in a statement.
