A woman stood her ground in an incident involving a man impersonating a police officer who tried to rob her, the latest in a series of similar cases, according to police.

The most recent incident took place on June 5 when a woman was contacted by a man she met online and agreed to meet him later in the evening at a business located in the 2800 block of Sunridge Way N.E.

Police said in a news release that when the man arrived, he identified himself as a police officer and said he had a search warrant for drugs.

The woman asked the man for his badge number"at which point the offender grabbed and pushed her and began yelling at her to stop resisting arrest," according to police.

When the woman demanded more officers to execute the search warrant, the man fled, but was followed by the victim. Police said she saw him get into an older model black Jetta.

Two previous incidents

Police believe it's the same man wanted into connection with two other incidents earlier this year, where someone showed up to meet women wearing a vest with "police" written across the chest.

In one of those incidents, the man handcuffed a woman and robbed her before unlocking the cuffs and fleeing.

The suspect is described as 20 to 30 years old, between five feet eight inches tall and five feet ten inches tall with a slim to medium build. He is possibly of Middle-Eastern descent, according to police.

At the time of the latest incident, he was wearing a dark-coloured, long-sleeved T-shirt with a black vest emblazoned with the word "police" in large letters under a dark-blue jacket.

"It is believed the man was also wearing a belt that was holding a flashlight, baton and a gun in aholster," said police in the news release.
